Phil and Chris Rose, the owners of Wairau River, have been growing grapes in the Marlborough region since 1978. Originally the 60 hectare vineyard was established as a contract grower for other wineries, and it was not until 1991 that the first Wairau River wines were produced by contract winemakers. Now the vineyard is renowned for producing extremely high quality wines, with a direct focus on typical Marlborough Sauvignon Blanc.
