A WHITE HOUSE PHILATELIC ITEM, SIGNED ON FDR'S 62ND BIRTHDAY

An unusual philatelic piece created in honor of FDR's 1943 inauguration and signed on his birthday. The large envelope with usual printed legend "The White House" in upper left-hand corner, addressed in black ink to Lt. And Mrs. John A. Roosevelt in California, with four purple 3-cent "Win the War" stamps affixed along the upper portion, each with circular stamped cancellation, the words at the top of each postmark reading "President...Franklin...Delano...Roosevelt," each dated 21 January 1943 (the day after Roosevelt's inauguration) in special observance of the occasion. Boldly signed in ink: "Franklin D. Roosevelt Jan. 30 1943" at lower left.
