The cup was given to Franklin D. Roosevelt by the U.S. Marine Corps to be given by him to his son John Aspinwall Roosevelt (b. 13 March 1916), on his "assignment" to the U.S. Marine Corps as an honorary gesture on the day of his birth. Franklin D. Roosevelt was Assistant Secretary of the Navy at the time.
The hairbrushes and shoehorn belonged to John Aspinwall Roosevelt and were used at Val-Kill.
The comb sleeve belonged to Eleanor Roosevelt and is from a dresser set seen in a photograph of her bedroom at Val-Kill.
