Mark of Maxfield & Sons, London, 1897/98
In George III style, rectangular on four shell feet, with pierced border, fitted with two silver-mounted cut glass bottles, the frame engraved with monogram MTH, fully marked
8¾in. (22.2cm.) long; 17oz. 10dwt. (556gr.) weighable silver
Provenance
The engraved initials are those of Margaret Tonnele Hall, a great aunt of Eleanor Roosevelt and the mother of Susan Ludlow Parish, Eleanor Roosevelt's cousin and godmother. Eleanor Roosevelt and Franklin D. Roosevelt were married in her twin house no. 6 and no. 8 East 76th Street in 1905.
Eleanor Roosevelt used this inkstand at Val-Kill.
