This lot was bequeathed to Franklin D. Roosevelt by a Major in the British Army. A letter written and dated 14 August 1945 by Col. Gayn-Anderson, brother of the late Major to Eleanor Roosevelt giving instructions on the ring's delivery which accompanies the ring. Notations in Eleanor Roosevelt's hand in pencil are written on the face of the letter and on the back inscribed Thank when we get and on the other side Thank and also Thank Col. Turner (air attache to the U.S. Embassy, London).A tag attached to the ring is inscribed President Roosevelt signet ring 600 B.C. in profound admiration R.G.G.Eleanor Roosevelt stored it in a velvet jewelry box engraved on the top in gold "Dora" (Dora was a sister of Sara Delano Roosevelt).
