The oval form with conforming lid, the sides covered in blue and yellow drapery swag festoon papers and the lid centering the Andrew Jackson, "Old Hickory" pattern

Lot Essay

The festoon papers covering the sides of this box first became fahionable European imports to America in the late 18th and early 19th centuries, the drapery swag with roses was in production circa 1830-1835. The paper featuring Andrew Jackson was engraved after the Thomas Sully portrait of the President with his horse and sword and was not in production until circa 1840.
