The De La Chapelle began life as a modern all-steel chassis with the latest in BMW 3-series suspension, running gear and engine furnished with a well made and carefully finished body replicating the famous Bugatti Type 55 roadster body created by Jean Bugatti in the early 1930s. The chassis could readily be adapted to accommodate a full four seater open tourer body on similar lines to the roadster. The rear-mounted spare wheel became a sidemount and there was an ample hood with removable transparent sidescreens. A capacious (for a Bugatti) trunk was provided in the square-cut tail. As in the case of the roadster, the tourer was intended for serious motoring, and was provided with the usual early nineties aids to comfort, including air conditioning, mobile phone or any other accessory on demand. Detailing is very much in the spirit of the 1930s, the instrument panel being equipped with the traditional range of instruments. The quality of his production was such that de la Chapelle was extended the right to use the Bugatti logo.
This particular car was purchased new by the vendor for a price of about SFR 200,000 and is understood to have covered a mere 1213 km. It may be regarded as very much a new car, would provide characterful holiday or weekend driving and would be welcome at the growing number events now organised for the replica automobile movement. The car is Swiss registered.
