4to (308 x 206 mm). Facing text in Italian and French. Engraved throughout, title-pages with engaved portrait medallion of Cook. Contemporary calf, spine gilt (lacks label, hinges slightly rubbed.)

FIRST EDITION, PRESUMABLY THE DEDICATION COPY. Laid-in is a TLS by H.W. Pratley, proprietor of R. Hall Bookseller in Tunbridge Wells, to a Mr. Fox: "Purchased by me with the remainder of the entire library of the Cornwallis family from Linton Park, Maidstone. Linton Park was previously the seat of Sir Horace Mann, to whom the book is dedicated, and whose library passed into the possession of the Cornwallis family together with the mansion." Copies of the book are extremely scarce, with none listed in ABPC since at least 1976. Mitchell Library 1957; Sabin 27267.
