Lot Essay

The coin is almost certainly a Hiberno Norse issue, see Dolley, SCBI, British Museum, pp 122-3, where 'Stamford Godleof' is listed amongst eighteen 'English' mints. Curiously, Godleof is omitted from SCBI (41) Index II
