Lot Essay

For many years only a solitary specimen of the Canterbury halfpenny of Abp. Morton was recorded (BM). In 1960 Frank Purvey published two additional specimens, BNJ 1960 p.191. Now about a dozen coins are known of three varieties. All three are represented in the Shuttlewood collection.
