Lot Essay

Stewartby, BNJ 1986, p.189-90, reviews the known portcullis Groats with the mintmark portcullis punched over a crowned Gothic T on the obverse. This example is very similar to the specimen illustrated, reading FRA and having the regnal numeral viij, but is from a different die.
