Excelsior "One-Two-Three" Tricycle c1880 - A very early single seat tricycle having three wheels of differing diameter; the main wheel driven through a train of bronze gear wheels via cranked tranverse pedal-shaft; steering by vertical handle, mounted beside the wooden framed seat, operating via direct connecting rods to the central rear mounted wheel; braking is achieved by a similar handle and rod rack-and-pinion system. The Excelsior is now in restored condition; the work done over a period of some four years, the machine having been found derelict in the loft of an old malthouse in 1974.
