Lot Essay

William Sharington (WS) Under-Treasurer of the Bristol mint, May 1546 to January 1549, struck posthumous coins bearing the name and portrait of Henry VIII, but there is no method of distinguishing them. The most likely Groats would be those with bust B, which continued in use under Thomas Chamberlain (TC), January 1549 to 31 October 1549.
