Lot Essay

Philip and Mary Shillings with date below bust are notoriously difficult to obtain and are, almost without exception, in very worn condition. The best preserved in private hands is probably the Lockett/Norweb specimen which is good fine, but has been plugged. The variety without ANG, above, may be the only specimen available to collectors.
