In the Egyptian taste, carved and gilt heightened with stylised hieroglyphs overall, surmounted by an obelisk on a pedestal above the rectangular case, on a spreading marmo nero Belgio base, the Roman dial inscribed A ECALLE HORLOGER DE LA MARINE, PARIS, 93, PALAIS ROYAL, the twin barrel movement bereft -- 29in. (73.7cm.) high
