Lot Essay

The offered lot was once used by Tony Duquette to decorate the residence of Vincente Minnelli. Minnelli learned of Duquette's work while visiting the home of James Pendleton. The next day he went to his art director at MGM and said, 'I want this scene to look like Duquette'. The art director came back and said, 'I've searched everywhere and can't find anything about Duquette'
'You fool!' cried Minnelli. 'He's an artist, not a period! I'll call him myself.' They became great friends and worked together on many projects
