Lot Essay

The offered lot is often referred to as 'Young Girl with an Ivy Leaf'

Elizabeth (Beegle) and Tony Duquette arrived at Sir Charles and Lady Mendl's house 'After All' in Beverly Hills in 1946 for a party. Just before they walked through the door, Beegle picked an ivy leaf and placed it in her hair. Man Ray came across the room and said to Beegle, "I must photograph you just the way you are." An appointment was made for the following day and Beegle posed lying on the floor while Man Ray shot the picture standing over her on a ladder
