Lot Essay

The decorations in the offered lot were designed by Tony Duquette and made in France in 1951 during the time of his exhibition at the Louvre. Created under the influence of Elsie de Wolfe, Lady Mendl, the decorations were used by Duquette "at home" in Paris. Such pieces were popularized as dining table decorations by de Wolfe at the Villa Trianon
