The bulbous body raised on two short hollowed legs painted in dark red with bands of conjoined triangles within line borders, with a pair of strap handles painted with horizontal stripes, the slightly flared and rounded neck with vertical stripes

Lot Essay

Two examples of jars with slightly larger feet from the Siba Culture are illustrated by Zhang Pengchuan in Zhongguo caitao tupu (An Illustrated Catalogue of Ancient Chinese Painted Pottery), Wenwu Chubanshe, Beijing, 1990, no. 1299 and 1300.

The result of Oxford Authentication Ltd. thermoluminescence test no. C200f85 is consistent with the dating of this lot.
