A Rare Gilt-Decorated Celadon-Glazed Vase
Incised Qianlong seal mark and of the period
Of square baluster form, raised on a spreading foot and with a trumpet neck applied at the corners with four pierced handles simulating climbing dragons, the pale celadon ground finely painted on each face with an elaborate cluster of leafy foliage issuing from a large single blossom at the upper center, all between variously decorated borders

Lot Essay

A celadon-glazed vase of this form with similar dragon handles and with gilt highlights, but decorated on each facet with circular panels containing landscapes rendered in famille rose, from the Charles Russell collection, is illustrated by R.L. Hobson, C. B. Rackman and W. King, Chinese Ceramics in Private Collections, London, 1931, p. 198, fig. 357.
