Lot Essay

It has been suggested that this picture may be Absent Thoughts, one of six that Faed painted in 1868 according to the autograph list of his works, now in the National Gallery of Scotland. The fact that it is the last but one of the pictures on the list for the year may account for why our picture is dated 1869.
