Lady Elizabeth Bingham was the eldest daughter of the 2nd Earl of Lucan. She married in 1815 George Granville Vernon (son of the Hon. Edward Vernon Harcourt) who assumed the name Harcourt in 1830.
The original portrait referred to in the inscription is presumably Lawrence's portrait of the sitter, no. 383 in Kenneth Garlick's 'Sir Thomas Lawrence' 1989. The Lawrence portrait is described as '2/3 finished' in the list compiled by Lawrence's executor.
