With an overhanging rim above an hexagonal rim, each side with a handle enclosing a warrior, the bulbous body centred to the front by a cartouche depicting King Louis IX of France at battle, inscribed LUDOVICUS.IX.REX.FRANCORUM.PUGNANS.TALIEBURGI.A.D.MCCXLII, the back with another cartouche of the King on his death-bed, inscribed LUDOVICUS.IX.REX.FRANCORUM.MORIENS.TUNETI.A.DOM.MCCLXX, the lower section with coat-of-arms, on a shaped spreading base

Lot Essay

Jean-Henri Jansen established his business in 1880. He relocated to 9, rue Royale, paris, in 1885. He became Fournisseur de la Cour d'Espagne, manufacturing furniture in the old and new styles. He exhibited at the 1883 Amsterdam Exhibition and at the Paris 1889 Exposition Universelle and was awarded a Silver Medal at both.
