Pacing, on an oval naturalistic base inscribed A. BARYE and CH. VALTON, on a stepped plinth, the back inscribed BRONZE CIRE PERDUE

Lot Essay

Born in Pau in 1851, Charles Valton (d.1918) studied under Barye and Levasseur. He began exhibiting at the Salon in 1868, where he won a third class medal in 1875 and a second class medal in 1885. He was awarded several medals at the 1889 and 1900 Great Exhibitions.
