Lot Essay

Born in Pau in 1851, Charles Valton (d.1918) studied under Barye and Levasseur. He began exhibiting at the Salon in 1868, where he won a third class medal in 1875 and a second class medal in 1885. He was awarded several medals at the 1889 and 1900 Great Exhibitions.
