Lot Essay

Born in Burgundy in 1848, Edouard Lanteri (d.1918) studied at the Ecole des Beaux Arts, Paris before emigrating to London in 1872. He joined the staff of the Royal College of Art in 1874 and was professor of sculpture from 1880 to 1910. He exhibited at the Royal Academy from 1876 and specialised in portrait busts, statuettes and genre groups.
