Lot Essay

Stodart was an English firm of piano-makers founded by Robert Stodart (1748-1831). About 1792 ownership of the firm passed to Robert's nephews, Matthew and William. From 1794 the ratebook of St James's, Westminster, list William Stodart at Golden Square.
