The stained red side depicting the Chinese versus the European court on the natural side, the knopped stems carved overall with stylised lotus petal motifs, the rooks as castellated towers carved with landscape scenes, surmounted with a miniature building and flags, both stained knights replaced -- the king 4in. (10.2cm.) high; the pawn -- 2½in. (6.4cm.) high; and thirty two draught counters, stained red and natural carved overall with figures admist foliage -- 1 3/8in. (3.5cm.) diameter
