No VAT will be charged on the hammer price, but VA… 顯示更多 WILLIAM RALPH (DIXIE) DEAN Dixie Dean is, without doubt, the greatest ever Everton player. He was born in Birkenhead in 1907, the only boy in a family of six. By the age of eleven his football skills were such that he was already playing regularly for a local team of 16-year-olds. A brief spell of employment with the Wirral Railways was ended in 1923 when he was signed by Tranmere Rovers, then in the Third Division. During season 1924-25 he played 27 games for the club and scored 27 goals. Dean was now attracting the attention of more prominent clubs and in 1925 he signed for Everton. He was not even selected to start season 1925-26, but seven goals in a early reserve game earned him rapid promotion. He ended the season having scored 32 goals The following season is remembered as the great Championship-winning one, in which Dean established his remarkable record of scoring 60 League goals and over 100 goals in total. Over the next few seasons further honours came his way: International appearances; a Divison 2 Championship medal and a Division 1 Championship medal in successive seasons; and an F.A. Cup-Winners medal. Season 1933-34 saw him score his 300th League goal and in 1936-37 he surpassed Steve Bloomer's previous record of 352 League goals. Dean played his last game for Everton in 1937 and enjoyed brief periods thereafter with Notts County and Sligo Rovers before retiring from the Senior Game As a testimony to Dean's popularity, a benefit game held in his honour at Goodison Park, which took place 26 years after his retirement, drew a crowd of 40,000. Dean died at Goodison Park in 1980, following an Everton-Liverpool derby game. THE FOLLOWING LOT WAS AWARDED TO DIXIE DEAN
