In the opening game of the 1970 World Cup Tournamemt played in Mexico against Romania on 2nd June at the Jalisco Stadium, Guadalajara, before 50,000 spectators, England defeated Romania 1-0. In the next match against Brazil played on 7th June at the same stadium, before 66,750 spectators, Brazil defeated England 1-0. In the next match against Czechoslovakia played on 11 June at the same stadium, England defeated Czechoslovakia 1-0. This was to be Banks's last match in the tournament due to an illness that kept him out of the Quarter-final match against West Germany
