The overall form of this chandelier is probably inspired by the celebrated drawing by Alrecht Dürer, executed in 1513 and now in the Kunthistoriches Museum, Vienna. Known as 'kaiserluchter' or Emperor's chandeliers, a related prototype of circa 1516-1519 attributed to the workshop of Jörg Lederer of 119 is illustrated in H. Kreisel, Die Kunst des Deutschen Möbels, Munich, 1968, figs. 348-9.
