Lot Essay

Her father, James Gow was a genre painter and her brother Andrew Carrick Gow, R.A. (1848-1920) painted portraits, historical, military and genre subjects. She studied at the Queens's Square School of Art and Heatherley's. Elected to the New Society of Painters in Water-Colour in 1875 she resigned in 1903. She married the artist Sydney Prior Hall (1842-1922), who was the son of Harry Hall the sporting artist.
