Lot Essay

This silhouette appears to be an example of Rosenberg's 'Anti-Etruscan' style. Rosenberg advertised 'Likenesses in Etruscan and Anti-Etruscan methods' although McKechnie was unable to find any examples of the red against black profiles. [See S. McKechnie, British Silhouette Artists and their Work 1760-1860, London, 1978, p. 563-4]
