Two North Italian Vambraces
Circa 1430-40
For the right and left arm and of the same period, but not an exact pair, each comprising an open upper-cannon with turned top and bottom edges, articulated, by two plates on the left and one on the right, to a bluntly-pointed cowter, with an oval side-wing with V-shaped central 'pucker', articulated by two plates to a tulip-shaped two-part lower- cannon, hinged together on the inner side and buckled on the outer, the edge flanged inside the elbow joint and with a turn at the wrist, with indistinct maker's marks on the left upper-cannon and the right lower-cannon, the former involving split crosses (straps and buckles and leather tabs at the top for points replaced)
