A Rare North Italian (Milanese) Breast-Plate In The German Style, From The Armoury Of The Castle Of Churburg
Circa 1480
Of bulbous form, made in two halves, the upper one with neck- and armholes with turned edges, on the latter bordered by double ribs, below the neck a raised 'V'-shaped section struck with a maker's mark 'IA' under a split cross, the overlapping lower half triangular, secured at the point by a sliding rivet and at the sides by internal leathers, the lower edge flanged and carrying a skirt of three articulated plates with a medial ridge
