A Spanish Cabacete With Associated Bevor
Late 15th Century
Forged in one piece, with skull of half-almond shape rising to a point (the tip broken off), and wide downturned brim pointed fore and aft, its edge and that of the base of the skull bordered by rows of domed lining-rivets, the falling-bevor (barbote) originally of three plates (the top one missing), the lower part of the bottom one extending in a point to the centre of the chest, the tip pierced with two holes for an arming-point, the riveted upper plate shaped to the chin, struck twice with a so-called 'crow's foot' mark and carrying a spring locking-catch for the missing pivoted top plate
