In 1951 Jaguar introduced a fixed head coupé alongside the already extremely popular ‘Super Sports’ or Roadster XK 120, as production was beginning to keep up with demand. The closed roof of the 120 allowed for a more luxurious driving compartment, with a walnut dash panel and door cappings, a heater and wind up windows. It was still ideal for all number of competitive events but also provided a comfortable grand touring car. With the huge overseas demand, until 1953 all coupa©s such as this example were to left hand drive specification.
Sold new to America, this XK was found on the East Coast of America and brought back to Europe approximately fifteen years ago. When discovered the Jaguar was fitted with a C Type head, and disc brakes. A comprehensive restoration was then undertaken by Lowland Classic Cars of Elburg, Holland, which is detailed in an extensive photographic record offered with the car. Full refurbishment of the bodywork, followed by a bare metal respray to the current livery, and trimming in light green hide, combined with a thorough mechanical rebuild provided an excellent result.
Residing with a Dutch collector for the last five years, where it has seen limited use has ensured that the car remains in good order today, and although not driven by a Christie’s specialist the vendor describes it as driving great and performing beautifully. In this ownership it has been returned to correct drum brake specification, and a smaller the original diameter steering wheel is fitted. The file with the car also includes a reproduction handbook, as well as over 200 photographs of the restoration.

Equipped with chrome wire wheels, additional driving lights and a bonnet strap, this is an excellent, sporting and well-presented Jaguar XK.
