Lot Essay

The inspiration for this drawing are the Chau dancers who give regular performances in the villages in Purulia. The male dancer in the work is wearing a mask of the goddess Durga. Durga as the slayer of the Buffalo Demon combines concepts of godhead with one of Pyne's most enduring characters the warrior.
