Miss Craigie was the daughter of Robert Craigie (1685-1760), later Lord Craigie; she married John Reid, a lawyer.
Lord Craigie became an advocate in 1709, Lord Advocate in 1742 and President of the Court of Sessions in 1754; he was also Member of Parliament for Wickborough between 1742 and 1747. His portrait by Ramsay, painted circa 1741, was formerly in the collection of the 1990 vendor's family until 1960. He was the son of Lawrence Craigie of Kilgraston, and Vertue records a Mr. Laurence Craigie, who may be the same person, acting as Factor for Ramsay over financial transactions for portraits (See Vertue III, Walpole Society XXII, p. 157; and A. Smart, The Life and Art of Allan Ramsay, 1952, p. 56n.)
