VAUGHAN, Henry. Sacred Poems, London: Ballantyne Press for Hacon & Ricketts, 1897. 8°, woodcut frontispiece, title border and initials by C.S. Ricketts (variable light browning and offsetting), original paper-covered boards, letterpress paper lettering-pieces to spine and upper cover (spine and board edges darkened, extremities lightly rubbed, small stain on upper cover). Although Seven Pillars of Wisdom was dedicated to 'S.A.', it seem unlikely that the pencilled inscription in this volume relates to that person, but is simply coincidental. The inscription was present when the book was listed in 'Books at Clouds Hill', and it is possible that Lawrence's interest in fine printing caused him to acquire the book as an example of the Ballantyne Press' work; certainly, several other books published by the Ballantyne Press are listed in 'Books at Clouds Hill'.
