A large amount of Arabian plants are described for the first time in Förskal's work. Förskal was a pupil of Linnaeus and travelled out with a major research voyage to Arabia in January 1761. He died of malaria at Jerim, Yemen, in July 1763, having completed his work on the botany of Arabia. It was seen through press by Carl Niebuhr who was the only surviving member of the expedition.
