The circular plate in a reeded slip and beaded and lappeted border, with foliate and winged eagle cresting, and foliate apron, the sides each with a scroll and a scrolled candle-branch with nozzle, with printed paper label on the reverse 'THOMAS [F]ENTHAM, NO.136, STRAND. Lot Essay

Thomas Fentham, carver, gilder, glass grinder and picture-frame maker, occupied several addresses in the Strand between 1774 and 1825. He worked from 136 The Strand between 1794-1820. His label appears on closely related convex mirrors, also with candlebranches, illustrated in C. Gilbert, Pictorial Dictionary of Marked London Furniture 1700-1840, Leeds, 1996, pp. 28 and 204-205, figs. 344-347.
