A related mahogany arm-chair with the Grecian-lyre splat embellished with an Apollo-medallion in place of the shell was listed at Mersham-le-Hatch, Kent in 1926. This lyre pattern features on a set of richly-inlaid armchairs, attributed to John and William Linnell of Berkeley Square, and supplied in the late 1760s for the Library at Osterley Park, Middlesex, while the hermed and fluted legs relate to the Breakfast Room chairs at Osterley (P. Thornton, 'The Furnishing of Mersham-le-Hatch', Apollo, June 1970, p. 269, fig 5; and H. Hayward and P. Kirkham, William and John Linnell, London, 1980, vol.II, figs.71 and 72).
