A finely engineered hand operated approximately 1½in.:1ft scale model of a twin cylinder compound vertical reversing condensing marine engine
with blued-steel clad cylinders 1½in. and 2¼in. bores x 2in. stroke, cylinder head lubricators, valve spindle tail shafts, valve chest and cylinder draincocks and pipes, simpling valve admitting steam direct into the exhaust transfer pipe, studded stuffing boxes, rear frame incorporated slipper type crosshead guides, handwheel, worm and quadrant operated Stephenson's link reverse, L.P. crosshead driven airpump and rear frame mounted tube condenser with appropriate pipework with flanged joints and valve. Further details include counterbalanced crankshaft running in four main bearings with oil pots, tapered connecting rods with marine type big end bearings, shaft coupling, disc flywheel and hand operated chain and sprocket drive, finished in green and polished bright work, cast bed and display base with brass plate engraved 'Marine Compound Engine Built in 1900 for Thames River Tug Boats Scale 1½in.:1ft' -- Measurements overall --17¼ x 15¼in.
