A well engineered 1½in. scale model of a Burrell 'Devonshire' Single Crank Compound two speed three shaft General Purpose Traction Engine of circa 1897
built by W.E.Appleby, with brazed copper boiler with fittings including water and pressure gauges, safety, blower, simpling, water lift and clack valves. Engine details include cylinders ½in. and 1in. bores x 1¼in. stroke, footplate controlled draincocks and pipes, studded stuffing boxes, double bar type crosshead guides, mechanical lubricator, Stephenson's link reverse, bolted, strapped and wedged big end, belt driven governor, eccentric driven feed pump and bypass, two road speeds mounted outside the hornplates and spoked flywheel. Chassis details include spoked straked wheels, worm and roller chain steering, footplate controlled damper, winch drum, cable and fairleads, band brake to third shaft, water lift suction pipe and rose, wooden footboard and tool box, finished in green, brown and red with white, black, yellow and red lining and polished brightwork --15¼ x 25in. (38.8 x 63.5cm.) Framed historical note.
