An extremely finely engineered exhibition standard model of the single crank tandem compound jet condensing Corliss Valve Mill Engine 'Elsie' originally built by J. & W. McNaught, Rochdale, Lancs, 1902, installed in Wasp's Mill, Wardale 1917
and modelled by A.E. Marsden and superdetailed and finished by M. Frost, with cylinders ½in. and 1 1/8in. bores x 2¾in. stroke, cylinder lubricators and pressure relief valves, draincocks, inlet manifold with main stop valve with brass plate engraved James Tate Bradford, pipework with flanged joints, the HP cylinder with eccentric, gear and rod driven Corliss valve gear with inlet valve dashpots, the L.P. cylinder with eccentric driven slide valve, slipper type crosshead guides, bolted and wedged big and little ends and barrelled connecting rod, the big end with pressure lubricator, valve rod driven dummy Porter governor and linkage, waisted crank and spoked flywheel built up in sections and with eight rope grooves. Further details include crosshead driven underfloor mounted air and feed pumps, condenser and appropriate pipework, floor mounted water valve, dummy lubricators, drip trays, main bearing cap nuts with bolted collars under, hand railings, chequerplate floor sections, barring arc and dummy pressure and vacuum gauges and much other fine detailing. The engine is finished in blue and polished brightwork and mounted on a simulated stone bed with mahogany planked floor surround against a simulated cutaway wall revealing underfloor works, mahogany plinth --16 x 34½in. (40.5 x 87.5cm.). Mahogany display base and brass-bound glazed cover.
