The rectangular dentilled cornice above a blind fretwork frieze-drawer, two short drawers and three long graduated drawers, flanked by fluted pilasters, the stand with three drawers around a square arch, on reeded cabriole legs with pierced fretwork brackets, on pad feet, lacking part of one front foot and a handle

Lot Essay

The curved fluted pilasters on the angles are characteristic of country furniture made in Lancashire and Cheshire.
A similar oak chest-on-stand, although without the sophisticated fretwork seen on the above lot is illustrated in H. Cescinsky, English Furniture of the 18th Century, Vol. I, p. 158, fig. 173.
