The rectangular top with pierced gallery of a floral wreath supported by a cross to each side with two similar supports in the centre, cornered by four finials, above a frieze-drawer, on turned tapering baluster legs, on brass caps and castors, the interior of the drawer indistinctly inscribed in chalk 'ky 255', restorations and repairs to laurel wreaths
19 in. (48 cm.) wide; 20½ in. (52 cm.) high; 13½ in. (34.5 cm.) deep

Lot Essay

This Canterbury derives from a design by John C. Loudon published in 1833 in his Encyclopaedia of Cottage, Farm and Villa Architecture and Furniture, 1833. A similar canterbury based on the same design was sold anonymously, Sotheby's London, 27 September 1996, lot 176 (£5,520).
