A French brass striking and repeating carriage clock, circa 1885
The anglaise riche Corinthian case with stepped base, with silvered filigree mask against a black enamel dial, the chapter ring with gilt painted Roman numerals, silvered centre with retail signature D.C. RAIT & SONS PARIS, silvered spade and plain hands, with presentation inscription dated 1883 to the rear, the twin barrel movement with silvered platform to the cut bimetallic balance with lever escapement, strike/repeat on gong to the backplate stamped for E. Maurice & Co. and numbered 367 -- 6¾in. (17cm.) high; with original leather travel case, numbered to the underside
