A William IV mahogany longcase clock, circa 1830
The line inlaid case with brass rosette capped swan neck pediment to the hood, outset brass capped reeded columns to the front, rectangular trunk door flanked by canted angles, above plinth raised on bracket feet, the 11½in. white dial with painted spandrels to the Roman chapter ring, the centre with subsidiary seconds and date rings, signed Alexander Chippenham, with painted rolling moon alternating with scene of a farmer and a ship of the line to the arch, with falseplate to the four pillar rack striking movement with anchor escapement -- 87in. (221cm.) high
