Jean Dunand (1877 - 1942) trained to become a jeweller at the Ecole Professionnelle de Bijouterie-Joaillerie-Orfèvrerie after establishing himself as a sculptor, coppersmith and cabinet maker, and excelling in particular in the art of Japanese lacquerwork. In his studio in the rue Hallé, Dunand contributed to the artistic community of Paul Jouve, the animal painter, Francois-Louis Schmied, the engraver-illustrator among others, sharing ideas and drawing on each others creativity.
